By Chris A. Choat

Aimpoint T-1 QD Mount from GG&G

The new Aimpoint Micro T-1 is a great lightweight tactical scope, but the scope design does not accommodate flip-up lens covers. It comes with bikini lens covers that are not easy to remove, keep in place or reinstall and are easily lost. GG&G has now come up with a solution that is so unique, it has a patent pending. That solution is an Accucam Quick Detach T-1 Mount that includes a built-in provision that provides for the installation of a flip-up lens cover for the ocular end. Additionally, the kit includes a specially prepared flip-up cover that fits the objective lens. The Aimpoint T-1 easily and solidly installs onto the GG&G Accucam QD mount with four 3mm screws. The installation wrench is included in the kit. The ocular end of the T-1 scope fits perfectly into the small integral lens cover flange, and while providing the means to mount a flip-up lens cover, it does not interfere with the field of view. The T-1 mount is manufactured from solid billet 6061 T6 aluminum and is Type III hard coat anodized matt black per mil-spec. The new GG&G T-1 QD Mount is manufactured to mount directly to the AR-15/M16 integral rail. This will position the red dot just above the front sight post, yet is low enough to co-witness with the GG&G MAD, A2 or Spring Actuated A2 BUIS. The Accucam Quick Detach Locking Lever System provides the shooter with a solid method to quickly install or remove the T-1 from the weapon in just a few seconds. Unlike other QD systems, it is fully adjustable to fit either Weaver or MIL-STD- 1913 rails. The unique design also allows you to adjust tension to accommodate out-of-spec or worn rails. The finger loop on the mount is easily operated even with a gloved hand and its rounded edges are snag proof. For more information on this new mount as well as their full line of innovative firearm accessories, please contact GG&G, Dept. SAR, 3602 E. 42nd Stravenue, Tucson, AZ 85713. Phone: (800) 380-2540. Fax: (520) 748-7582. Their website is www.gggaz.com.

Magpul Introduces New Polymer PMAG

The Magpul Polymer Magazine (PMAG) fits the M16 series and other 5.56×45 NATO compatible weapons. It features numerous enhancements intended to improve reliability, long-term storage, overall durability and is designed to fit 30 rounds without any need for downloading. A loaded magazine inserts and locks easily in a closed bolt weapon or may be stored for extended periods with the unique Impact Cover in place. The PMAG also features a special anti-tilt follower that prevents binding and improves feeding consistency. An optional MagLevel Round Indicator System allows for visual identification of round count on either side of the magazine. The Impact Cover snaps firmly onto the top of the PMAG via interlocking tabs (unlike aftermarket dust covers) and can be quickly removed with one hand.Fitted into place, the Impact Cover provides impact protection for the feed lips, prevents dirt/dust intrusion, and eliminates distortion of the feed lips caused by longterm loaded storage. When separated, the Impact Cover serves as a magazine tool that facilitates unloading and disassembly. A lanyard hole is included to prevent part loss. The proprietary Anti-Tilt Follower works in conjunction with the magazine body to stabilize the loaded round stack. The PMAG body features a constant internal curve (unlike metal magazines with a curve-to-straight transition) and allows for consistent round stack regardless of round count. This configuration prevents many of the common feeding malfunctions seen in other magazines such as nose-diving and bolt-over head failures. The optional MagLevel Round Indicator System tracks the amount of loaded rounds remaining in the magazine. This dual window system is visible from either side of the magazine allowing for ambidextrous function. Unlike transparent magazines without this feature, the MagLevel tracks all the loaded rounds in the magazine from first to last including the final remaining rounds hidden by the magazine well. For more information please contact Magpul Industries Corp., Dept. SAR, P.O. Box 17697, Boulder, CO 80308. Phone: (303) 828- 3460. Fax: (303) 828-3469.
CTK Precision Introduces New P3 Mono-Grip

CTK Precision has just introduced their new P3 Mono-Grip; a vertical foregrip and a monopod all in one. The P3 Mono-Grip turns a vertical foregrip into a shooting rest with a simple turn of the wrist. The new Mono-Grip provides a rock solid support, but still gives you the flexibility and versatility when you need it most allowing you to immediately pivot your firearm from left to right to get on target fast. It is CNC machined from billet aluminum for high strength and light weight (only 6.4 oz.). Other features include a hard coat anodized finish and flat sides for attaching pressure switches. A collapsed height of 4.75 inches and an extended height of 8 inches allow the use of a 30-round magazine. The spring loaded, pop out design adjusts from a grip to mono-pod in seconds. The durable rubber foot on the bottom resists slipping and will not harm finishes. The new Mono-Grip fits all Mil-Spec 1913 Picatinny rails. For more information, or to place an order, please contact CTK Precision, Dept. SAR, E5861 Herzberg Road, Marion, WI 54950. Phone: (715) 754-2891.
Laser Devices Introduces New High Power Tactical Lasers

Laser Devices, Inc., manufacturer of state-of-the-art visible and infrared aiming lasers, handheld and weapon-mounted tactical lights and small arms training systems is pleased to announce the new high power models of the Inline and Offset Tactical Aiming Lasers-ITAL-HP and OTAL-HP. These two new models feature a high power focusable/defocusable infrared (35mW) (835nM) beam. When focused, the beam provides pin-point aiming and pointing. When defocused, the beam spreads to provide supplemental infrared illumination for use with night vision devices. Each device is also equipped with a low-power setting to reduce the output power to an eye-safe level for use indoors, at close range and for force-on-force training exercises. A focusing ring on the front of the housing allows the user to focus or defocus the laser depending on their mission requirements. Defocusing the laser provides supplemental spotlight illumination to search shadowed areas. When the laser is focused to a point it can be used for precise aiming of the firearm or as a target pointer. The ITAL-HP and OTALHP are activated using a remote cable pressure pad switch. This electronic switch allows the user to operate the laser in a momentary mode by pressing and releasing the switch or to instantly activate the laser in a continuous ON mode by tapping the switch twice. A built-in safety circuit automatically turns the laser off after five minutes of continuous activation. Like the original ITAL and OTAL the ITAL-HP and OTAL-HP are manufactured to meet MIL-STD-810F requirements for reliability under the most adverse environmental conditions from desert heat to arctic cold. Fully waterproof to 3 meters and precision machined from hard anodized aircraft grade aluminum, the ITA-HP and TOTALHP are virtually indestructible. Powered with a single AA battery, these devices are lightweight (6.1 ounces) and compact (3.7 inches long and 1.75 inches wide). ITAHP and TOTAL-HP are available with two mounting options: Quick Release Throw Lever mount or Knurled Thumb Screw mount and supplied with one AA battery and a remote cable pressure pad switch. Optional accessories include pattern generating optics and a diffuser to provide wide area illumination at close range. ITAL-HP and OTAL-HP are powerful infrared laser devices that are only available to law enforcement and military agencies. In addition, they are subject to U.S. Export control through the International Trafficking in Arms Regulations. For more information, please contact them at Laser Devices, Inc., Dept. SAR, 2 Harris Court, Suite A-4, Monterey, CA 93040. Phone: (831) 373-0701. Fax: (831) 373-0903. Website: www.laserdevices.com.

Wilson Combat Introduces the Elite Tactical Magazine for the 1911

Wilson Combat, developer and builder of the legendary 47 Series magazine, announces a completely new 1911 magazine for serious, particularly combat oriented, shooters: the Elite Tactical Magazine, or ETM. Designed from the start as an 8- round magazine, it is the ultimate single stack magazine. The ETM features a heavier, stainless steel tube that’s more resistant to spreading and lip failure than any previous magazine, by any manufacturer. The re-designed spring is new and is more reliable and longer lasting than anything previously available. Numbered cartridge observation ports are located on the rear edge of each side of the tube, 1 through 10 numbers are etched on the base pad for tracking your magazines, and an innovative base pad allows for a longer tube and less spring compression, with a perfect flare for a sure grip when removing a magazine under adverse situations. Every component is either stainless steel or super tough nylon, making the ETM impervious to the elements. For more information on this new magazine, as well as their complete line of guns and accessories, please contact Wilson Combat/ Scattergun Technologies, Dept. SAR, 2234 County Road, Suite 719, Berryville, AR 72616. Phone: (870) 545-8618. Fax: (870) 545-3310.
Command Arms Accessories Introduces Two New Forward Grip and Bipod Combinations

Command Arms Accessories (CAA) the manufacturer of unique and innovative weapon accessories is proud to introduce two new Forward Grip and Bipod Combinations. The Pod Grip, a molded grip and stable bipod combination, offers improved muzzle control and increased accuracy. Manufactured from high-density polymer, it has four finger grooves for a comfortable and secure grip. The push button instantaneously releases the bipod legs allowing the operator to immediately move from the CQB position to the fighting prone position. The bipod feet are serrated for improved gripping. The rail mounting surface of the grip/bipod has two location lugs which lock into the Picatinny rail eliminating any front to rear movement on the rail. Quick release and installation on the rail is accomplished with a spring loaded rail clamp and thumbnut. The second model is the Pivoting Pod Grip and has all of the features of the Pod Grip plus the additional features of pivoting up to 60 degrees off center in both directions (120 degrees total), for acquiring and maintaining the sight picture. The bipod legs re-center automatically once released from the ground for instant weapon repositioning. A unique joint in the grip base allows the operator to correctly position the rifle straight up and down even if the bipod legs are on an uneven surface. The Pod Grip and Pivot Pod Grip are made of super tough polymer with a hard black anodized stainless steel mechanism for use in wet, humid, or salt-water conditions. Tough polymer legs are reinforced with a 1.2mm steel insert heat treated to 48 Rockwell for extra strength. An optional ambidextrous pressure switch mount (PGS) is also available. These new products as well as all other CCA accessories come with a Lifetime Warranty. For more information please contact Command Arms Accessories, Dept. SAR, 76 Vincent Circle, Ivyland, PA 18974. Phone: (267) 803-1518. Fax: (267) 803-1002. Website: www.commandarms.com.

Samson Manufacturing Introduces Krinkov Tactical Rail

Samson Manufacturing makes a full line of tactical rails for just about any tactical rifle. It has now expanded its line of rails to include a very innovative 4-sided rail for the diminutive Krinkov series of AK rifles. The new rail system requires no gunsmithing other than removing the weapon’s existing wooden upper and lower handguard. The wood upper handguard is removed from the gas tube and then the tube is replaced. The rail features a barrel clamp that fastens around the barrel just forward of the rear trunnion. The two-piece rail system then fastens to the barrel clamp with four socket head screws for a very secure fit. It has four 1913-Picatinny Mil-Spec rails located on top, both sides and the bottom. The top rail features a clearance slot so that iron sights can still be used. The bottom rail and side rail have clearance cuts for either side or bottom folding stocks. The new rail system allows the addition of optics, lights, lasers and vertical grips (like the excellent new TangoDown Vertical “Stubby” grip shown in the photo). Two models of the Krinkov rail are available; the Model 2 for the Yugoslavian M92 and the Model 3 for the Bulgarian rifles. These, like all of Samson’s other rails, are made from 6061 T6 billet aluminum alloy for light weight and rugged strength. They also feature a black anodized finish and laser-etched T-slot letters and numbers. This new rail is added to a long list of existing rail systems and accessories for most tactical rifles as well as the new SIG 556. For more information please contact them at Samson Manufacturing Corporation, Dept. SAR, 110 Christian Lane, Whately, MA 01373. Phone: (413) 665-1162. Fax: (413) 665-1163.
PentagonLight Adds New MOLLE Light Forest

PentagonLight has expanded their highly successful MOLLE Light family with the introduction of their new MOLLE Light Forest. Reminiscent of the widely issued WWII TL 122 vintage military flashlight, the MOLLE Light is an up-to-date version and the smallest high-power anglehead LED flashlight available in the market today. Its small size fits through PALs webbing for secured hands-free attachment on MOLLE vests and compatible gear. The rotating metal clip provides attachment options to numerous other locations. Powered by a single AA battery, this 40-lumen white light has a runtime of up to 3 hours. A green filter is stowed in the base for changing the beam color to green for use as a hunter safety light, and is suitable for outdoorsman/campers without spooking wildlife. The filtered green beam also produces minimal signature to night vision goggles and devices. A top mounted button on/off switch allows operation without removing from webbing. A miniature magnetic compass in the tail-cap serves as a navigation aid. With this new addition, the MOLLE Light has furthered itself as an icon of compact personal flashlights.
New A2 Back Up Iron Sight from GG&G

Improved and redesigned for 2008, the GG&G A2 Back Up Iron Sight (BUIS) provides the operator with an easy-to-install and easy-to-operate flip-up rear sight and includes the all important locking detent. Improvements include a more tactile and ergonomic windage knob, a countersunk crossbolt and more streamlined body. The GG&G A2 BUIS is always at the tactical ready once placed in the up position. The sight cannot be folded down without depressing the spring assisted detent release button located on the left side of the sight base. This totally eliminates the possibility of accidentally lowering the sight. All of these enhanced benefits improve the A2 BUIS and are offered without additional cost. The new sight can be used as a co-witness iron sight with most red dot sighting systems, as a stand-alone sight or in conjunction with the GG&G F.I.R.E. rails. The sight weighs just slightly over 2 ounces and features the standard military A2 style double peep aperture. The mount body and sight stem are manufactured from billet 6061 T6 aluminum alloy and Type III hard coat anodized in a non-reflective mil-spec finish to provide combat durability. All steel components are black manganese phosphated per mil-spec. As an option, the sight can be ordered with the XS same plane aperture or the Trijicon tritium aperture installed.
Japanese T96 and T99 Magazines from J&G Machine Service

J&G Machine Service has announced new Japanese T96 and T99 light machine gun magazines. They are intended for the shooter, not as a reproduction for the original Japanese magazine. Each magazine is individually cut from steel plate, hand formed and fitted, welded, hand finished and blued. Every magazine has been test fired for fit and function. J&G Machine Service guarantees each magazine: “Satisfaction Guaranteed.” Both magazine models weigh a little more than their original Japanese magazine counterpart due tothe use of plate steel. In tests, the 30-round magazines functioned flawlessly. The Type 99 magazine is for the 7.7x58mm cartridge, while the Type 96 is for the 6.5x50mm round. Why risk damaging an original $1,000 magazine when you can now use J&G Machine Service’s $180 (postage paid) shooter’s magazine instead. For information or to place an order, please contact J&G Machine Service, Dept. SAR, PO Box 10, Congress, AZ 85332. Reach them by phone: (928) 427-3180. Email: AZGUNSO@yahoo.com.

GG&G Introduces New Back Up Iron Sight

The New GG&G A2 Spring Actuated Back Up Iron Sight (BUIS) represents the latest innovation in BUIS products. Many operators requested a BUIS that would deploy with just the push of a button and GG&G delivered. The unique and proprietary design of the spring actuated mechanism captivates the actuator spring and mechanical components, preventing adverse environmental contact. The revolutionary design ensures reliability and long life of a critical component. The superior new design of the A2 Spring Actuated BUIS provides the operator the ability to activate the push button with the non fire control hand ensuring the user a tactical advantage under any condition. The locking mechanism functions for both the raised and lowered position, completely eliminating the potential of accidentally raising or lowering the sight and providing a low profile stance when lowered to allow the use of most optics. When properly mounted, the A2 Spring Actuated BUIS can be used to co-witness with most red dot and holographic sighting systems. In the unfortunate event of a electro-optic failure, the A2 Spring Actuated BUIS will deploy rapidly and securely. Standard A2 double peep aperture and windage knob allows for known point of impact by the end user. Optional XS same plane aperture or Trijicon Tritium Apertures are available by request. The mount body and sight stem are manufactured from solid billet 6061 T6 Aluminum, Type III hard anodized matte black. Steel components are Matte Black Manganese Phosphated and all finishes are per Mil-Spec. For more information, or to order the A2 Spring Actuated BUIS or any other of their fine products, please contact them at GG&G, Dept. SAR, 3602 East 42nd Strave, Tucson, AZ 85713.
Buffer Technologies Introduces New AR-10 Buffer

Buffer Technologies is expanding its line of high-quality tactical components with the addition of a hydraulic AR-10 buffer from Enidine, Inc. The new hydraulic AR- 10 buffer is an improvement over the weapon’s standard metal tube buffer. It dramatically reduces felt recoil and helps shooters maintain accuracy by suppressing bolt bounce and muzzle flip. It also helps protect optics by reducing shock to the delicate instruments. The Enidine buffer replaces the standard buffer assembly in the AR-10, but shooters retain their stock and buffer spring. The buffer has been engineered for an easy installation that doesn’t require any special tools or gunsmithing. The new AR-10 buffer is made from anodized steel with a corrosionprotection finish. Buffer Technologies also offers the AR-Restor, Enidine’s hydraulic buffer for both carbine and full stock AR- 15s. Enidine is a market leader in hydraulic energy absorbers for the industrial, aerospace and defense industries. Its hydraulic recoil buffers are used by the U.S. military and NATO forces for automatic weapons. For more information on this as well as their outstanding line of accessories and firearms buffers, please contact them at Buffer Technologies, Dept. SAR, P.O. Box 105047, Jefferson City, MO 65110. Phone: (877) 628-3337. Fax: (573) 634-8522. They can be found on the web at www.buffertech.com.

Sabre Defense Introduces New M2 and MK19 Tools

Sabre Defense Industries, a prime contractor to the United States military as a supplier of ordnance systems and components, is proud to introduce a simple solution for reducing breakdown time on M2s and MK19s while preventing potential personal injury; the M2 Tool and MK19 Tool. Simple disassembly and reassembly of an M2 or MK19 can be time consuming especially when in the field where every minute of response time is precious to the safety of the operator and his team. Throw in cold weather and wearing gloves and loosening a bolt with a standard wrench becomes near impossible. The Sabre M2 Tool is the perfect size for loosening and removing bolts and adjusts the timing without having to remove gloves. The M2 Tool makes removal of the drive rod spring easy and a special end sets the headspace gap and buffer body release pin. The Sabre MK19 Took allows the operator to hold down the sear to remove the bolt while preventing injury to the operator’s thumb. A pry end removes charging handles, aligns the slide and pin for the back plate. A builtin hammer can be used to remove the secondary drive lever. Both Sabre tools have been developed and tested with combat troops in mind. Soldiers in the field using the M2 or MK19 tools are already experiencing a time saving difference from a standard minimum operating time of 8 minutes to 3 minutes or less. Priced at $90 SRP per tool, Sabre’s M2 and MK19 Tools are the most efficient breakdown tools on the market. For more information or to place an order, please contact Sabre Defense Industries, LLC, Dept. SAR, 450 Allied Drive, Nashville, TN 37211. Phone: (615) 333-0077. Fax: (615) 333- 6229.
Crane Tactical Unveils ACS-50 (Advanced Combat Sight) for .50 BMG

There are few weapons that have withstood the test of time and have been as widely respected as the venerable .50 cal. Browning machine gun. Its superior ballistics and range of ammunition has allowed it to command the battlefield from the early stages of WWII to present day. Tomorrow’s battlefield however is changing, and so then changes the roles of those operating within it. It doesn’t take much observation to recognize the sighting limitations that prevent the .50 BMG from realizing its true potential in this new age of combat. The original “peep sight” has long since been ignored in the heat of battle and rarely lends itself useful except in training environments and fixed position applications. Twenty-first century warriors are on the move and likewise the .50 BMG is mobile and requires the ability to rapidly adapt to changing combat conditions. The ACS-50 offers the BMG the flexibility to meet the demands of this environment.

Crane Tactical ACS-50

Feature Highlights

Rapid Target Acquisition apertures combined with front adjustable ghost ring sight provide for quick and natural sight alignment. Apertures and sight frame have integral “spider sight” stadia lines that aid in rapid alignment of sights on target.

The patented three range rotary aperture provides no lapse of target impact from point blank to 1,000 meters. These aperture ranges, based off of M33/M8 ballistic trajectories, optimize the most widely used ammunition within the most likely range limit of combat target engagements. (Based on SWAT weapon assessment reports.)

Aperture ranges are set at 400, 700, & 1,000 meters. Trajectories alone provide overlapping impact coverage based on military weapon qualification requirements on E and double E sized targets. Cone of Fire further enhances this overlap. The three apertures are a qualifying gunners’ dedicated course of fire, making the sight easy to use in a training environment.

Rear integral MIL STD 1913 scope rail is standard and provides simultaneous use of the iron sights with PAQ4 IR laser for night operations and/or co-witnessed EOTech, AimPoint, or similar optics. Front and rear iron sights can be folded and stowed allowing for dedicated use of the rail for night vision sights, PEQ2 IR laser or higher magnification scopes for longer range engagements and target identification; thus greatly reducing the potential of collateral damage.

Front sight has an M16 style post allowing an adjustment tool or tip of a 5.56mm/7.62mm cartridge to fine-tune the elevation of sights to individual weapons in theater. Rear sight is adjustable laterally for zero and windage requirements.

In addition to quality all steel construction and state of the art production, the revolving aperture is by design self cleaning in its motion. The rotation sweeps debris through the housing pocket and out the bottom drain hole.

Tri-aperture is easy to interchange, should special ammunition use require significantly different trajectory; e.g., SLAP.

Entire sight package is designed to utilize existing sight mounting provisions. Installation can be easily and quickly made in the field, requiring a few basic tools and approximately five minutes.

The ACS-50 is currently being evaluated by the U.S. Dept. of Defense and GSA who are the largest potential end-users.
SureFire’s Outdoorsman Series Utilizes New LED Technology

SureFire, designer and manufacturer of high-performance illumination tools, has upgraded its Outdoorsman Series with new light emitting diode (LED) technology. The new, super-efficient LEDs used in Outdoorsman flashlights will generate higher light outputs, using the same power source. They also, at a given light output level, run longer than the LEDs previously used in SureFire E1L and E2L flashlights. The new, electronically regulated LED still utilizes a Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens to help maximize light transmission and create a user-friendly beam with a bright center and gradually diminishing corona. The one-battery E1L now has a maximum output of 30 lumens (a 5 lumen increase) and a total run time of 10 hours; a 150% increase. The two-battery E2L now has a maximum output of 45 lumens (up by 15) and a 133% increase in run time – 14 hours of total useful light. Both lights are still made from aerospace-grade aluminum and hard anodized for a strong, durable finish. O-ring seals help keep out moisture, dust and dir, and a strong Pyrex window protects the solid-state LED from impact. The Outdoorsman series of flashlights feature stainless-steel pocket clips, convenient click-on/off switching, and patented lockout tailcaps to prevent accidental activation during transport or storage. The diminutive E1L measures only 3.3 inches long and weighs a mere 2.2 ounces with batteries. The slightly larger E2L is 5.25 inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces. MSRP for the E1L is $99 and the E2L is $129. Both lights are available through authorized SureFire dealers or direct from SureFire. Please contact them at SureFire, LLC, Dept. SAR, 18300 Mount Baldy Circle, Fountain Valley, CA 92708. Phone: (714) 545-9444. Fax: (714) 545-9537.
Nighthawk Custom Introduces Heinie Tactical Carry

Nighthawk Custom of Berryville, Arkansas, a manufacturer of high quality custom 1911-style handguns, proudly announces that they will be offering a new custom gun, the Nighthawk Custom Heinie Tactical Carry in collaboration with Richard Heinie. The Heinie name is one that needs no introduction in the shooting industry, as Heinie sights are known the world over and adorn some of the finest 1911s on the planet. His skill as a master gunsmith is so sought after that he has enough guns already on order to carry him into his mid-seventies. After extensive testing of Nighthawk Custom pistols, Heinie chose to work with Nighthawk Custom to build a signature pistol to his very demanding specifications. The Nighthawk Custom Heinie Tactical Carry will be the first in the partnership, and will be built exactly to Heinie’s specifications. Many tactical pistol enthusiasts are familiar with this package already. Each one will have a specially selected barrel, Heinie Solid Trigger, compete carry de-horn, Heinie Straight Eight Slant Pro Night Sights, and a very unique Heinie mag well that is affixed to the gun after altering the frame. This alteration affords the benefits of a larger opening in the well area without adding grip length like most available add-on magazine wells do. The result is a fast, easy to load, accurate fighting gun. The Nighthawk Custom Heinie Tactical Carry also sports a flatslide top with 40 LPI serrations. You’ll recognize the quality when you open the breech, look inside and see the mirror-like shine on the feed ramp and the barrel throat. This is a very special 1911 that is built to last a lifetime. For more information, or to order one of these outstanding handguns, please contact Nighthawk Custom, Dept.

The newest product from GG&G industries is their Single Point Sling Attachment for the Remington 870 shotgun. Single point sling attachments have proven to have the “Tactical Advantage” over the standard “two point” sling attachments using the standard bottom mounted sling swivel. The new single point systems allow the operator to shoulder the weapon from either the right or left shoulder. This makes dynamic entries easier and it also becomes easier to “slice the pie” at doorways and while moving around corners without giving away the operators presence. Single Point Sling attachments also make it easier from users wearing body armor to deploy a sling mounted weapon as the sling attachment is now behind the receiver but in front of the buttstock. The new Remington 870 single point attachment is precisely machined from 7075 aircraft grade aluminum alloy and is anodized matte black. It will accommodate slings up to 1 1/4 inches in width and will also except the excellent Chalker sling system. It is easily user installed. This single point attachment can also be used in conjunction with a single point front mounting system to provide a dual-point mounting system. For more information contact GG&G, Dept. SAR, 3602 E. 42nd Stravenue, Tucson, AZ 85713. Phone: 1-520-748-7167. Fax: 520-748-7583. Their website is www.gggaz.com.

MULEY-POD BUTTSTOCK MONOPOD

One very interesting item that I ran across at this year’s SHOT SHOW was the Muley-Pod. It is a mono-pod device that attaches to the rear sling swivel on a rifles buttstock. When folded back it gives the shooter a rear rest that provides for a very firm support. When used with a front bipod like the excellent Harris bi-pod it allows a very steady rest for precise shot placement. The Muley-Pod is very well built from precision cast aluminum. It attaches to the standard sling swivel or in the case of the AR-15/M-16 to an adapter piece that is also available. The Muley-Pod incorporates a turn buckle design in which the center section is simple rotated to increase or decrease the buttstock height. The adjustment can be done with the shooters “off” hand while looking through the scope. It also allows shooters to acquire targets for long periods of time with less fatigue. This makes it ideal for SWAT and Military applications. The Muley-Pod has a swivel “foot” that has a non-slip rubber pad attached to it for a firm footing. The unit also has a built-in sling attachment point for use with a sling. When not in use the Muley-Pod folds forward against the bottom of the buttstock. It comes in three finishes black, matte (which looks like stainless) and metal ( which looks like nickel plate). It also comes in two heights, 9 inch and 5 inch. The new Muley-Pod is said to reduce recoil recovery time by as much as 80%. This outstanding device is made in America and is warranted for life. For more information contact Muley Enterprises, Dept. SAR, P.O. Box 137, Oakley, ID 83346. Phone: 1-208-862-9226.

NEW LAPUA .22 LR AMMUNITION

Lapua, one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of match grade .22 long rifle ammunition, has just announced the introduction of a unique new multipurpose subsonic loading that features a specially lubricated bullet. Lapua Signum™ .22 LR ammunition utilizes a new coated 40 grain bullet that offers shooters the same benefits of coated bullets in centerfire loadings. It reduces bullet-to-bore friction, which makes obduration less violent and allows the bullet base, which is critical to accuracy, to resist deformation. The nose of the bullet is stamped with the Lapua trademark as an added means of identification. Muzzle velocity of the new ammunition is approximately 1075fps, making it firmly subsonic. This actually aids accuracy, as the bullet will not be subjected to any of the transonic buffeting experienced by faster projectiles as they decelerate through the sound barrier. Lapua has consistently achieved 10 shot group averages 15mm center to center at 50 meters. Signum™ bullets have 8 symmetrical horizontal and vertical lubricant grooves that are very evenly filled with lubricant so the barrel is lubricated homogeneously. This groove pattern absorbs about 15% more lubrication and distributes it over an area 50% greater than traditional lead bullets. This allows complete lubrication from chamber to muzzle. The lubrication also allows barrels to foul less readily and maintain peak accuracy for longer strings. For more information on the new ammo contact KalTron-Pettibone, Dept. SAR., 1241 Ellis Street, Bensenville, IL 60106. Phone: 1-630-350-1116. Fax: 1-630-350-1606. Their website is www.lapua.com.

By Charles Q. Cutshaw

According to Mark Westrom, CEO of Armalite, the company’s AR-10A4 is the most popular model of the resurrected and modernized 7.62x51mm (.308 Winchester) rifle, predecessor of the ubiquitous AR-15. Certainly the AR-10A4 offers great versatility, with flat top receiver and gas block coupled with a lower price than Armalite’s AR-10(T) precision rifle. Although not a match rifle, the AR-10A4 offers good accuracy and reliability in a field grade rifle. Our personal AR-10A4 is one of the early versions of the rifle and it has given faithful service for many years. The big AR, however, almost begs to be adapted as a semiautomatic “scout” rifle following the concept originated by Jeff Cooper. The AR-10A4 is relatively lightweight and compact, especially in its carbine configuration. The handiness of the carbine version, however, is offset to a degree by increased felt recoil and a palpable muzzle blast.

Closeup of GG&G F.I.R.E. rail, M.A.D folding rear sight and HoloSight.

Our AR-10A4 has always delivered approximately minute of angle accuracy, so our focus will be on the conversion into scout rifle configuration. The notion of AR-10A4 as scout rifle did not originate with this author. Indeed, Tom Newhall of GG&G proposed the idea some time ago and it was manifested in his AR-10 F.I.R.E System modification of the rail mounting system already in use by some units of the U.S. Marine Corps on their M-4 carbines. The F.I.R.E. acronym stands for “Fully Integrated Rifle Enhancement System” and consists of several components that enhance the utility of the AR-10A4 as a scout rifle. These include a scout length rail that projects approximately three inches forward of the receiver to allow mounting a long-relief optical sight, GG&G’s MAD (Multiple Aperture Device) backup rear sight, and flip up front sight. These components enable the owner to convert his AR-10A4 into a true scout rifle configuration.

The GG&G F.I.R.E. rail mount is a MIL-STD-1913 design made of aircraft grade aluminum. The rail that we installed is the standard mount for shooting out to 500 meters, or for the long-range shooter, a rail with 15 minutes of angle built in is available. The GG&G rail is hard anodized in gray that exactly matched the finish of our AR-10A4. Attaching the rail to the receiver of the AR-10A4 was as simple as placing it properly so as to mount the backup M.A.D. iron sight and obtain the proper relationship of the cantilevered scout mount with the rifle’s receiver. The rail is retained with hex-head screws that are threaded into stainless steel inserts so as to avoid stripping threads in the aluminum. The necessary wrench for installation is included with the rail kit. To ensure that the rail stays in place, we used “Gun Tite” on the threads. This is a low strength Lock Tight that ensures that screws do not loosen, but can be easily broken loose with a screwdriver or wrench without damage.

The MAD backup rear sight fits flush with the rail mount at the rear of the receiver and the sight itself folds flush with the rail’s top surface so that it does not interfere with the scout optics. This unit’s mounting block is of aircraft grade aluminum with stainless thread inserts, while the sight and aperture disc are of steel. The sight is also hard anodized with steel components phosphated. The steel components are a slightly lighter gray than the AR-10’s receiver. The MAD’s apertures are dimensionally identical to those of the M16A2, but unlike the M16’s, which flip back and forth between two apertures, the MAD has four alternating large and small apertures in a rotating disc that we found more convenient than the usual system. The edges of the disc are knurled for positive grip. The MAD sight is adjustable for windage, but not for elevation, which must be accomplished using the front sight. This was the original AR system and is acceptable in a backup sight, and although elevation adjustments can be accomplished using a bullet tip, the task is easier using a specialized tool.

Top: M.A.D. rear sight in “up” position. Note knurling on sight disc. M.A.D. rear sight in folded position on bottom.

The folding front sight simply clamps onto the gas block. Unlike the rear sight and rail, the front sight is of all steel construction. The front sight guard is serrated on its outer surface to provide a gripping surface. Having the front sight folded out of the way is a decided advantage when using optical sights because it does not interfere with the shooter’s line of vision, yet is instantly available when required. The optical sight is probably the most critical element of a scout rifle system. Typically, scout rifles use optics ranging from 1x to 2.5x. This is to ensure the speed of target acquisition and accuracy inherent in the scout concept. While any number of sights would have sufficed for our purposes, we installed one of EO Tech’s 1x second generation HoloSights on our AR-10A4. The HoloSight is one of the premier electronic optics available today. It is actually a hologram projected by a laser onto a piece of hardened glass. The HoloSight incorporates a 1 MOA center red dot surrounded by a 65 MOA circle. When used properly, i.e. with both eyes open and looking at the target, the 65 MOA circle automatically brings the center red dot onto the target as the rifle is brought up to a firing position. Unlike other red dots, that of the HoloSight does not obscure the target, nor does it seem to grow larger as intensity is increased to compensate for bright sunlight. The latest military and law enforcement versions of the HoloSight have ten levels of night vision built in, as compared to only two levels in competitive units. The current HoloSight is waterproof to only ten feet, but since we do not plan on using our rifle for deep-water swimmer deliveries, that is more than adequate. We understand that new versions of the HoloSight, to be introduced in the near future will be waterproof to 33 feet.

The final element of our FIRE’d AR-10A4 was one of Buffer Technologies’ Mag-Cinch dual magazine mounting systems. The Mag-Cinch is the only such system that locks a rifle’s magazines together in a virtually inseparable bond that gives, in the case of the AR-10, 40 rounds of instantly accessible ammunition “on the gun.” In everyday use, the added weight of a second magazine of 20 rounds of 7.62mm cartridges ready for instant insertion into the rifle’s magazine well is almost certainly overkill and probably unnecessary. On the other hand, having such “overkill” available just as certainly drives the likes of “Barbara Fineslime,” the “Violence Propaganda Center” and their ilk to distraction. For that reason alone, it is worth doing!

Above: GG&G AR-10 front sight, raised. Below: GG&G AR-10 front sight, folded.

While the AR-10A4 is a fine rifle in its standard configuration, the enhanced scout configuration that GG&G’s F.I.R.E. system affords makes a good rifle even better. The components are manufactured to a high quality standard and fit the rifle perfectly. The added eye relief that GG&G’s F.I.R.E. system adds to the AR-10’s rail is ideal for a low power, long eye relief telescopic sight, or for a 1x optic such as the HoloSight. It is an accessory that we find particularly useful and we recommend it to those who wish to enhance the versatility of their AR-10A4 or AR-10(T) rifles.

Armalite
PO Box 299
Geneseo, IL 61254
Tel: 309-944-6939
Fax: 309-944-6949
www.armalite.com
email: info@armalite.com

Buffer Technologies
(Mag-Cinch)
PO Box 104903
Jefferson City, MO 65110
Tel: 573-634-8529
Fax: 573-634-8522
www.buffertech.com

EOTech, Inc.
3600 Green Court, Suite 400
Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Tel: 734-741-8868
Fax: 734-741-8221
www.eotech-inc.com

GG&G
3602 E. 42 Stravenue
Tucson, AZ 85763
Tel: 520-748-7167
Fax: 520—748-7583
www.GGGAZ.com
email: GGGAZ@aol.com

Anzio Ironworks has just introduced their new compact .50 caliber single shot rifle. The new rifle is so compact that it can actually be stored and transported in a briefcase! The rifle is a quick take-down type but is very strong and also very accurate. The receiver is made from ETD 150 chrome-moly steel. It features a 17 inch Badger barrel as standard equipment but the rifle can be ordered with any length barrel. The 17 inch barrel is the only one that will allow the gun to be fitted into a briefcase. The barrels are 1 in 15 twist, cut rifled and hand lapped. The overall length of the assembled rifle is just 37 inches but in can be broken down to fit in a standard briefcase in less than 30 seconds. Other features of the Takedown .50 include a picatinny rail for mounting the users choice of optics, a Versa-Pod bipod and a fully adjustable trigger which can be adjusted down to around 2 lbs. One novel feature of the new rifle is the way it is cocked. The front of the pistol/trigger guard is merely rotated forward after the gun is loaded to cock it. The rifle weights 23.5 pounds without the bipod and comes standard with a blued finish. A baked-on moly-coat finish is available as an option as is a Haliburton briefcase and longer length barrels. The manufacturer guarantees that the new rifles will shoot under 1.5 moa out to 1000 yards. For more information contact Mike Remo at Anzio Ironworks Corp., Dept. SAR, 1905 16th Street, St. Petersburg, FL 33704. Phone: 1-717-895-2019. Fax: 1-727-827-4728.

GG&G’s M-3 Light Mount

The Insight Technology M-3 light has proven itself to be one of the finest weapon mounted lights around. Its light weight, powerfully bright light and rugged construction make it the light of choice for demanding professionals. The M-3 light was originally designed to interface only with handguns, such as the Glock. Now GG&G have introduced a series of M-3 mounts for several firearms. The first is a mounting rail for the Colt M-16/AR-15 series of rifles. The rail can be installed by the operator with basic hand tools or it can be purchased from GG&G already installed on a new set of standard M16A2 or M-4 handguards. This mounting rail retails for just $25.00. Next is GG&G’s M-3 rail for dovetail installation on such systems as the Knight Armament Company’s “RIS” or “RAS” M-4 forearms or the D.S. Arms rail units for the FN FAL series of rifles. This unit will also fit on standard “Weaver” type dovetails. The cost of this unit is $36.00. GG&G also manufactures two universal adapter rails for the M-3 Tactical Illuminator. The 1/2 inch concave (on the bottom surface of the mount) version will fit a wide range of firearms, such as the Benelli shotgun. The 3/4 inch convex model can also be used on a wide range of weapons including the Remington 870 shotgun. Both of these mounts sell for just $26.00 each. For more information on these or any of GG&G’s wide range of mounts contact GG&G, Dept. SAR, 3602 East 42nd Stravenue, Tucson, AZ 85713. Phone: 1-520-748-7167. Fax: 1-520-748-7583.

SPEC-OPS NEW READY-FIRE MODE MAGAZINE POUCH

Best Made Designs, LLC, has just introduced another product in the Spec-Ops line. The new product is called the Ready-Fire Mode magazine pouch. The new mag pouch fits the buttstock of several different assault rifles; AR-15/M-16, Mini-14, AR-10 etc. The new pouch is made of 1000 denier Cordura fabric nylon and quickly attaches to the host weapon with Velcro straps. Once in place it provides the shooter with a mag pouch for either a 20 or 30 round spare magazine. The pouch is forward opening with pull-tab cover flap of positive magazine retention but quick access. The difference between this and other buttstock mag pouches is that the Ready-Fire Mode incorporates a rear mounted sling attachment point that allows the rifle to be carried in the Ready-Fire Mode! The Ready-Fire Mode works with the weapon’s standard sling and can be attached or removed in seconds. For more information on this great new product contact Best Made Designs, L.L.C., Dept S.A.R. 1601 W. 15th Street, Monahans, TX 79756. Phone: 1-915-943-4888. Fax: 1-915-943-5565.
Columbia River Knife and Tool had recently introduced the new M16 “LE” and “M” knives with Gary Paul Johnsons “1*” logo on them. Gary designed the logo-1* (one ass-to-risk) while he was with the Shakers Heights Police Department. It was designed as a reminder to those who go in harms way to be careful out there. Gary granted CRKT the exclusive right to use his “1*” logo on special models of its folding and fixed blade knives. Identical in construction to their popular original M16, the new models offer the same sure-grip contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized in Law Enforcement blue for the LE models and Olive Drab for the M series. The stainless steel locking liners with friction grooves are also black Teflon plated, and give positive locking with limited access for superior safety. The new knives have AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge retention and durability, plated in black non-reflective Teflon. All models feature the “Carson Flipper” extension to the blade, which aids in opening and acts as an additional blade guard. For more information on the M16 1* Knife Line contact Columbia River Knife and Tool, Dept. SAR, 9720 S.W. Hillman Ct., Suite 805, Wilsonville, OR 97070. Phone: 1-503-685-5015. Fax: 1-503-682-9680.
