DANIEL DEFENSE
DD WAVE
The DD WAVE sound suppressor’s cascading baffle geometry more effectively attenuates sound than simpler baffle styles. A unique one-piece, 3D-printed baffle and tube eliminate the need for welds—typically the weakest points of a traditional suppressor. Constructed of nickel-based superalloy, stainless steel and Titanium—and then Cerakote-coated—the DD WAVE is fiercely strong yet lightweight, making it durable and reliable for full-auto use. danieldefense.com

BRÜGGER & THOMET (B&T)
Monoblock
The Monoblock suppressor was originally developed for the sniper rifle of the German Army and Navy Special Forces. The Monoblock line of suppressors is the perfect choice for those hunters/shooters who strive for maximum sound and muzzle flash reduction. The suppressor can be mounted/dismounted in a matter of seconds and with an inexpensive adapter put on rifles with different muzzle threads. bt-ag.ch

BRÜGGER & THOMET (B&T)
Tiger
The Tiger line is designed to be as small as possible in length and diameter while still providing excellent sound reduction. This is for those who hunt from confined spaces of a raised blind or prefer using open sights. The Tiger can be mounted/dismounted in a matter of seconds and with an inexpensive adapter put on rifles with different muzzle threads. bt-ag.ch

AWC SILENCERS
THOR Thundertrap
Short, light and astonishingly quiet, the AWC THOR Thundertrap, delivers the accuracy demanded by law enforcement snipers, bench rest shooters and hunters. The THOR Thundertrap retains spent gases for a longer period causing the sound emitted to be a soft hiss rather than a pop. The THOR Thundertrap is constructed for all centerfire, bolt and semi-auto rifles. awcsilencers.com

The removable core allows the end user to clean and maintain the suppressor, significantly increasing the reliability and lifespan of the rifle which is designed to be used with standard and high-velocity .22LR ammunition. awcsilencers.com

SIG SAUER
SRD762Ti
The SRD762Ti is a Grade 5 Titanium direct thread suppressor. The 5/8-inch-24tpi threads match the vast majority of modern sporting rifles in .308/762/300BLK on the market today. The rear mount has wrench flats to torque the suppressor to the barrel. These wrench flats can be used as a location to “pin and weld” the suppressor to make a shorter barrel over 16 inches in total length. The SRD762Ti is rated up to .300 Win Mag and any other rifle cartridges that are of equal or less projectile diameter, pressure and case capacity. sigsauer.com

By Todd Burgreen

A manufacturer that is developing into a noteworthy force in the US for all firearm categories, albeit sporting, competition, tactical or personal defense, is Sturm, Ruger & Co. This epiphany was caused by the recent introductions of AR style rifles, a .300 Blackout Mini 14 and most recently the bolt action Precision Rifle. This bolt action is unlike any other offered by Ruger. The Precision Rifle is Ruger’s take on creating a highly accurate long range bolt action detachable magazine rifle; all the while keeping it affordable.

The Ruger Precision Rifle will surely be considered by any department or individual pondering a precision bolt action tactical rifle; its reasonable price will only reinforce this. It is available from the factory in various calibers, .308Win (tested herein), 6.5 Creedmore, and .243Win. The Precision Rifle arrives with many notable features including fully adjustable folding rear stock, threaded muzzle, Picatinny rail running along the upper receiver out to the end of the forend, and Ruger’s adjustable Marksman trigger. One thing that distinguishes the Precision Rifle, functionally and aesthetically is the ability to accept multiple types of detachable magazines. Ruger has devised a patented Multi-Magazine Interface (MMI), allowing them to greatly increase magazine compatibility beyond only one type. The Ruger Precision Rifle can use DPMS, M110, SR25, PMAG, AICS and some types of M14 magazines. Two 10-round Magpul PMags arrive with the Ruger Precision Rifle.

With personal and agency budgets constantly under pressure, the Ruger Precision Rifle could be the answer to fulfilling a multitude of rolesóDMR rifle, general-purpose patrol rifle, or precision rifle. Its classic bolt action aesthetics will appeal to many departments.

The Precision Rifle evaluated herein is chambered .308Win with 6.5 Creedmore and .243Win available. Many are already salivating at the thought of a long action version chambered in .300WinMag or even .338Lapua appearing in the future. The Precision Rifle is centered on a modified Ruger All American bolt action. Overall length is 38.25 to 41.75 inches with the 20 inch hammer forged 4140 chrome-moly steel free-floated medium profile barrel (.75 inches at muzzle) featuring 5R 1:10RH rifling. According to research for this article 5R rifling places a land opposite each of the barrel’s grooves, resulting in less aggressive upset and distortion of the bullet as it engages the rifling, thereby aiding in accuracy. The 5R rifling also features less sharp edged lands than those present in conventional-style rifling, reducing powder fouling and jacket failures. The company further optimized the Precision Rifle’s accuracy by utilizing the tightest possible chamber while also taking extra care to ensure a centralized chamber and minimal headspace. The muzzle is 5/8×24 threaded. A Ruger provided thread protector can be removed to make room for installing other muzzle devices. The Precision Rifle weighs in at 9.7 pounds when empty.

The Precision Rifle’s lower magazine well is machined from aerospace-grade 7075-T6 aluminum Type III hard coat anodized for maximum durability. The upper receiver and bolt are CNC-machined from pre-hardened 4140 chrome-moly steel. The upper receiver has an integral 20 MOA Picatinny rail secured with four, #8-40 screws for increased long range elevation capabilities. The three lug full diameter All American bolt has a 70 degree throw along with dual cocking cams. A bolt disassembly tool is stored in the bolt shroud. The bottom bolt lug is ideal for stripping rounds from the detachable magazines. Ruger decided to go with an oversized threaded on bolt handle for easier rapid working of the action; after all you have a high capacity magazine worth of ammunition available. If a user so chooses, a different bolt handle can be installed.

Ruger equips the Precision Rifle with an integral 20MA Picatinny rail for ease of mounting magnified optics for use at extended ranges.

Ruger has chosen a different path from typical bedded stocks or even the chassis systems that seem to be gaining in popularity. The Precision Rifle utilizes a linear in-line recoil path to maximize accuracy potential by directing unwanted movement and vibration straight back into the buttstock. This minimizes impact on barrel harmonics when the rifle is fired; the key here is consistency during the firing impulse. The stock is threaded into the rear of the receiver in effect becoming a part of it.

The AR influence is hard to escape for any rifle nowadays-even bolt actions. Any AR style stock can be used over the buffer tube like projection if a user feels the MSR stock is not to their liking for some reason. The Precision Rifle’s barrel can be easily changed using techniques and tools common with AR15 rifles. Ruger is using a 15 inch free floated Samson Evolution KeyMod AR handguard. As with the buttstock most AR style forends can be used if a user wants to retrofit with one. The same can be said of the AR style pistol grip and fire selector switch.

The 1:10 twist hammer forged barrel gets the most out of the various wide ranging .308Win loads on the market i.e. 147 grain to 175 grain. The Precision Rifle’s relatively light weight, compared to other precision rifles on the market, gives improved portability and above average handling characteristics for a precision tactical bolt action rifle. Many tactical rifles, while accurate, resemble boat anchors when it comes to handling due to weight and stock configuration; not the Ruger Precision Rifle.

The Ruger Precision Rifleís Samson forend handles bipods or sandbags with equal aplomb thanks to ability to add KeyMod sections. Rails are easily added along its sides and bottom

One has to be impressed with Ruger’s design work in getting the Precision Rifle to accept and feed via popular detachable magazines. Reliability is something that can not be compromised. The oversize bolt and smooth passage of the bolt in the raceway allows for minimal disturbance of the rifle when the bolt is worked. The Precision Rifle’s oversized bolt handle and detachable magazine are features that lend themselves to performing in a tactical environment and serve to maximize the Ruger’s potential.

Many will wonder what is the purpose or niche for the Ruger Precision Rifle. Why not just use a tuned semi-automatic AR in lieu of the bolt action Precision Rifle? The answer lies with individual or department preference for a bolt action. This could be based on cost, public perceptions, or myriad of other reasons. Ruger has designed a rifle that is rock solid with characteristics making it conducive to accurate shooting from a variety of positions. The forend handles bipods or sandbags with equal aplomb. The Ruger Precision Rifle is not exclusively designed for shooting from the supported prone or bench position. The stock allows for offhand and other types of supported fire if needed. Think hood/trunk of a squad car or other field expedient positions. The ergonomics of the adjustable length of pull Ruger MSR buttstock allows for a comfortable, repeatable cheekweld. This is combined with a Magpul AR pistol grip making hand placement conducive to pulling the Ruger Marksman trigger smoothly to the rear.

The Precision Rifleís muzzle is 5/8×24 threaded allowing for installation of specific flash hider or suppressor adaptor.

The first requirement of a tactical rifle is precise accuracy. A Leupold Mark IV 3.5-10x50MM scope with mil dot reticle was mounted on the one piece Picatinny rail above the Precision Rifle’s receiver via Leupold Mk IV rings. It has the typical great Leupold reliability, clarity, and image quality with a near perfect variable power range for a precision .308Win rifle. Importantly, Ruger provides the Precision Rifle with an integral Picatinny rail to that optics can be mated right up to the action for a solid zero maintaining connection between rifle and optic. Champion tripod front rest and sandbags were used to support the Ruger Precision Rifle during bench testing phase of evaluation in conjunction with bipod.

Various .308Win loadings from Black Hills Ammunition, Federal, Winchester, and Hornady provided the basis of accuracy tests. The Black Hills Match loads tested consisted of 168 grain Match bullets. The Federal chambering was the venerable 168 grain Match load that still serves as the benchmark for performance. 168 grain TAP from Hornady along with Winchester 168 grain Match was also used. The Precision Rifle’s 20 inch barrel produced velocity in the low 2600 feet per second (fps) range with the 168 grain loads. The Precision Rifle’s 20 inch barrel maximizes portability and handling while maintaining .308Win ballistics and terminal performance. As to be expected with quality ammunition, velocity figures within the different loads deviated very little from round to round as witnessed shooting over a RCBS AmmoMaster chronograph. The Precision Rifle produced MOA or smaller groups with several different ammunition brands—an important logistic consideration. The accuracy figures are based on firing five five-round groups and averaging group sizes.

Ruger MSR rear stock is adjustable for LOP, cheek height, and buttpad cant.

Steel targets were smacked with ease out to 320 yards using field expedient rests at Echo Valley Training Center’s Range #1 stepped berm system. While by no means rivaling a semi-automatic for pure fire power, the detachable magazines were handy to recharge the Precision Rifle after the last empty case was flipped out on the ground. The Precision Rifle’s action was “slick” and smooth as it emerged from the box. The Magpul magazines that arrived with the Ruger Precision were used as well as the recently introduced Brownells’ AR 308 20-round magazine. The Precision’s bolt would function over the Magpul follower when the magazine was empty; however not with the Brownells due to follower configuration. This is not a criticism of either magazines or rifle. Just an observation so that different user’s can explore on other magazines they choose to use. This does not impact use of the rifle as laying cartridges in the raceway to single feed rounds did not work no matter magazine used. It is required to first click the rounds under the magazine’s feed lips for chambering properly.

The Ruger Marksman trigger is a huge part of the phenomenal accuracy to cost ratio factor derived from the Precision Rifle. The Marksman trigger is just as important to accuracy as the Ruger bolt action and quality barrel. A rifle’s trigger is the interface between shooter and rifle and must be right or accuracy will suffer. From the box it measured just below 4 pound pull weight. Ruger Marksman trigger is externally adjustable with a pull weight range of 2.25 to 5.0 pounds. Conveniently, Ruger has stowed the trigger adjustment tool in the bolt shroud with the previously mentioned bolt disassembly tool. This allows the Marksman trigger to be adjusted by the user without having to resort to an armorer. Without going into minutia, the Marksman distinctive “trigger blade” release lever in front of the trigger proper is the secret to maintaining minimal trigger weight, without creep, while keeping the system safe. The “trigger blade” must be activated (i.e. moved rearward into the trigger) before the sear will move firing the cartridge. A sudden drop or impact will not do this, even if the safety is off. The Marksman trigger’s contribution to precise accuracy can not be overemphasized.

Ruger’s adapting the Precision Rifle to accommodate detachable style magazines gives it unique capacity compared to other bolt action rifles. The All American boltís bottom lug is used to strip rounds from the magazine.

In an effort to demonstrate the Ruger Precision Rifle’s flexibility in use, a Yankee Hill Machine Phantom flash suppressor was threaded on. The YHM Phantom flash hider allows for easy mounting of the YHM 7.62 Phantom suppressor. YHM’s Phantom 7.62 Sound Suppressor is a .30caliber suppressor utilizing Mike White’s Sound Technology Inc.’s patented baffle design. The Phantom 7.62 Sound Suppressor is manufactured from Chrome-Moly steel and features a matte black Parkerized finish. Its overall length is 8.5 inches with a diameter of 1.6 inches and weighs 25ounces. Hand tightening is all that is needed with the Phantom Flash Hider to hold the suppressor firmly in place. Conversely the suppressor can easily be removed via hand pressure when no longer needed. The Phantom Flash Hider supports the suppressor in two places helping to ensure bore alignment. A patented gas seal keeps the Phantom Flash Hider threads clean so the suppressor will not bind when removed from a weapon no matter how many rounds are fired.

Some time ago Engel Ballistic Research (EBR) subsonic ammunition was discovered as a primary source of quality sub-sonic ammunition due to the variety of calibers and loadings offered. Another reliable source for .308Win sub-sonic loads is Corbon. The Ruger Precision Rifle combined with YHM suppressor and Engel Ballistic Research or Corbon sub-sonic .308Win loads is eerily efficient out to 100 yards. Furthermore tactical modification of the Precision Rifle into a lowlight/dark role is satisfied by mounting an American Technologies Network ATN PS22 Night Vision device in front of the Leupold scope. This multiuse ability keeps day scope constantly zeroed, yet allows for quick adaptation night use. The PS 22 is attached or detached with no impact on the day optic’s point of aim and parallax is not an issue. Another benefit of the PS 22 is that a scope’s reticle does not need to be illuminated or IR compatible for it to be visible when using the PS 22. This differs from NV products that mount to the rear of the scope. These kinds of uses are outside the realm that most user’s require from a weapon.

Field expedient shooting positions were utilized with Precision Rifle during T&E.

The ability to adjust the Ruger MSR stock in a myriad of ways further supports its accuracy potential. Length of pull (LOP), check riser height, even cant of the buttpad is adjustable to user preference. The ability to fold and lock the Ruger MSR stock eases transport. An Eberlestock G2 pack proved a natural companion to the Precision Rifle during T&E. The G2’s combination of being a top loader pack and accessible front panel means that the main compartment is hassle free to access. There’s no digging and wrestling with your pack to free an item–its quick at hand. It’s a great combination. If you carry your weapon on your back, you’re much more agile and effective than if it’s stuck in your hands or on a shoulder sling all of the time; simply no better way to move about in an organized fashion. By having the pack carry the rifle, your hands are free for all of the things you need them for when you are traversing terrain. Further more, Eberlestock makes it so that you can get your weapons off the pack without having to un-strap everything that you’re wearing. Most importantly the pack must be comfortable considering all the time spent with it out in the field. The Gunslinger II (G2) has all these characteristics. It’s a mid-sized pack with a full-width scabbard to better accommodate weapons with larger cross-sections or bulky optics; weapons up to 60 inches long can be accommodated. Eberlestock’s “Control Clips” at the top of the G2’s Backscabbard compartment are used to segregate the scabbard and also to securely hold a rifle. The Control Clips are also used to hold the top cover onto the scabbard locking your gun into the pack. The G2 offers 2,700 cubic inches of space measuring 22 inches high, 10 inches wide, and 8 inches deep. The G2 can be generalized as a Three-Day pack in terms of what it can carry afield. The G2 is waterproof with the 1000d Cordura Nylon material polyurethane coated.

Even though a bolt action and imminently qualified to serve a precision tactical weapon, the Ruger Precision Rifle should not be pigeon holed into solely a sniper rifle role. There many jurisdictions and/or private users that will appreciate its non-assault rifle bolt action persona while maintaining its high capacity capability. Misconstrued prejudices may arise when it comes to Ruger Precision Rifle stemming from elitist sentiments based on price. Some individuals, not to mention industry competitors, will want you to believe that the moderately priced Precision Rifle, $1399 MSRP, must somehow be deficient when compared to rifles costing two to three times more.
Ruger Announces New SP101 Revolver in .22 LR

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. announces a new SP101 revolver chambered for the .22 Long Rifle, the most popular cartridge in the world. The new .22 LR Ruger SP101 is true to Ruger standards of rugged reliability and perfect for those seeking a quality small frame revolver. This new SP101 will appeal to firearm instructors and enthusiasts who want to practice and perfect their shooting skills, or just spend time plinking with inexpensive rimfire ammo. Ruger re-engineered the SP101 to chamber eight rounds instead of the traditional six, improved the sights, and maintained the same classic features that were the SP101. The 30-ounce double-action revolver is made of weather resistant stainless steel with a satin finish for longevity and good looks. The walnut grip panels inset in the one-piece rubber grip are checkered and engraved. The revolver features a fully adjustable square-notch rear sight and fiber-optic, square-post front sight. The 4.2-inch barrel features a half shroud covering the ejector rod. For more information contact Sturm, Ruger and Company, Inc., Dept. SAR, 200 Ruger Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.
M240 Machine Gun Foregrip and Rail Adapter

Special Tactical Services, LLC, now has a new adapter kit that allows the user to add useful accessories to the M240 machine gun by means of a rail (patent pending). This short rail adapter assembly fitted to the forward mount lug is primarily designed for rapid and rugged attachment of vertical foregrip assemblies but the attachment is also suitable to accessory bipod assemblies that utilize a Mil-Std 1913 interface (Picatinny Rail Grabber). As the pivot point has been moved closer to the operator, the STS adapter provides a more natural handling point and improved ergonomics. Bipods attached in this location allow for a more rapid traverse and offer handling characteristics that emulate the Mk43/M60-E3 configuration for quicker engagement of multiple targets dispersed across the field of fire. Installation is quick and easy. Simply pull the center pin all the way out to the right side. The pin is captive and will stop in the fully disengaged position. Place the adapter over the receiver forward the mounting hole location. Push the pin all the way left, through the receiver lug into the fully engaged position and securely attach the rail accessory or grip of your choice. STS does not recommend the attachment of polymer or cast metal (MIM) rail interface material. Plastic or rubberized grips are fine; so long as they incorporate a high quality machined metal rail grabber. For more information you can contact them at Special Tactical Services, LLC, Dept. SAR, Diamond Springs Road Suite B, Virginia Beach, VA 23455. Phone: (757) 554-0699. Fax: (208) 693-9692.
New SureShell Shotshell Carrier from Mesa Tactical

Mesa Tactical, provider of high quality tactical accessories and gear to law enforcement, military and civilian shooters, announced the availability of its four-, six-, and eight-shot SureShell shotshell carrier and optics rail assemblies for Mossberg’s Model 500 and Model 590 pump action shotguns. Mesa Tactical’s aluminum SureShell shotshell carriers are an industry standard and the preferred choice of most federal, state, and municipal law enforcement agencies due to their hard anodized aircraft aluminum construction and fail-safe shell retention system.

Mesa Tactical has been supplying shell carriers for the Mossberg 500 platform since November 2005, but this current announcement highlights the availability of integrated shell carriers and optics rail assemblies. Similar products have been available for the Benelli M2, Benelli M4 and Remington 870 platforms for years, but this is the first time integrated shell carriers and rails have been offered for the Mossberg shotguns. SureShell shell carrier and rail assemblies for the Mossberg pump shotguns feature four-, six- or eight-shell shotshell yokes fitted to a bracket incorporating a Mil-Std 1913 (NATO STANAG 2324) Picatinny optics rail. The rail bracket is secured to the shotgun receiver using the optics rail mounting holes already drilled and tapped into the Mossberg receiver at the factory. The optics rail stretches most of the length of the shotgun receiver, or about 4.5 inches, allowing the mounting of a red dot scope or other target acquisition aids. In addition to the standard 4.5 inch rails, Mesa Tactical is also offering four-, six- and eight-shell carriers in a full length (20 inch) configuration. Twenty inch rails allow the use of back-up iron sights (BUIS) in addition to optics. The full length rails are supported at the front by Mesa Tactical’s new Magon magazine clamps. A unique feature of the full length rail and Magon clamp system is the ability to completely field strip the weapon, including removal of the barrel and bolt carrier, without tools, leaving the rail and clamp intact. A full length rail is also available with no shell carrier. For more information contact them at Mesa Tactical, Dept. SAR, 1760 Monrovia Ave., #B1, Costa Mesa, CA 92627. Phone: (949) 642-3337.
AccuCover Increases Accuracy While Reducing Parallax Error

British designed and manufactured, the AccuCover is an entirely new concept in scope cover design. As you would expect from a manufacturer of quality scope covers, it provides excellent protection of your scope and lens against whatever the elements can throw at it. However, what really makes the AccuCover unique is its ingenious patented design which helps you soot both faster and more accurately. This is done quite simply with the addition of high visibility markings on the rim of the scope cover. When you aim, your eyes traditionally focus on the crosshairs within the scope and the target behind. With AccuCover, your peripheral vision also come into play, sensing the four markings on the rim and helping to keep your eye aligned with both crosshairs and target. By simply aligning the brightly colored chevrons with the crosshairs, the eye becomes centralized to the scope. Its simplicity is its beauty. With all three elements aligned, this not only allows you to acquire the target faster, it also ensures a more accurate, consistent shot. The benefits of the AccuCover are:

Reduced parallax error – excellent cheek weld delivering greater accuracy

Reduced rifle cant – less rifle tile delivering greater accuracy

Faster eye alignment – especially in dusk/dawn lighting conditions

Silent push-button opening – ensuring a stealthy approach

Cover folds flat to scope – eliminating undergrowth entanglement

Water resistant – as you’d expect from a first class scope cover.

AccuCover is already being used by British police forces for firearm training and on sniper rifles and the military is also learning of the benefits of this simple product. It comes in three sizes, which fit up to 99% of all ocular rifle ends. For more information, contact them at AccuZero Ltd, P.O. Box 6387, Leighton Buzzard, Beds, LU7 6BY Great Britain. Phone: +44 (0) 7958 195446. Website: www.accucover.com.

Ruger Announces New American Made 1911 Pistol

Sturm, Ruger and Company has just announced that it is now manufacturing their first 1911 pistol designated the SR1911. The single-action .45 Auto Ruger SR1911 features a bead-blasted stainless steel frame and slide that is precision CNC machined for a precise slide-to-frame fit. The stainless steel barrel and bushing are produced simultaneously, from the same ordnance-grade barstock, for a precise fit and improved accuracy. The slide features rear cocking serrations and a dovetailed three-dot sight system with a Novak rear sight and standard front sight. The Ruger SR1911 pistol features a titanium firing pin and heavy firing pin spring, which negates the need for a firing pin block, offering an updated safety feature to the original “Series 70” design without compromising trigger pull weight. An extended thumb safety offers improved manipulation and an oversized beavertail grip safety provides positive function and reliability. A visual inspection port offers visual confirmation of a round in the chamber. Positive extraction is facilitated by an improved internal extractor. The plunger tube for both the slide stop and thumb safety is integral to the frame and will never shoot loose. The swedged link pin also will not shoot loose. The SR1911 uses a skeletonized hammer and an aluminum, skeletonized trigger with an adjustable over-travel stop. The Ruger SR1911 features a standard recoil guide system and flat mainspring housing. The Ruger SR1911 grips feature a Ruger logo in checkered hardwood panels. Each pistol is shipped with one 7-round and one 8-round stainless steel magazine, bushing wrench and a soft case.
Steiner Introduces New Predator Xtreme Binoculars

Continuing to produce state-of-the-art optical innovations that outperform its competition, Steiner introduces the new Predator Xtreme roof-prism binoculars, which offer a special proprietary lens coating that filters light and adds contrast at the peak sensitivity range of the human eye. Steiner has been perfecting its high-contrast lens coating for many years and the innovative Dynamic Coating Technology available on the new Predator Xtreme represents the sixth generation of the company’s exclusive contrast-enhancing optics. Steiner’s Predator Xtreme binoculars overcome the challenges associated with high-contrast coatings, which previously resulted in decreased brightness, reduced light transmission or altered colors. The Dynamic Coating Technology filters out a small amount of light in the middle of the visible color spectrum, making your eyes more perceptive to certain colors, especially in low-light conditions. The increased perception occurs because the human eye reacts differently to different color wavelengths. The end result is that browns, reds and other wildlife colors found on most game animals pop out against green backgrounds. A new ergonomic design employs a rigid polycarbonate chassis that is extremely durable and waterproof. The binoculars are positively pressure-purged to 14 psi with dry nitrogen and argon gases for absolutely leakage-free performance in all weather conditions. The Predator Xtreme lineup features 8×22, 8×42, 10×26 and 10×42 models. Each binocular comes equipped with a padded travel case, removable neoprene rain-guards for the ocular lenses and objective lens caps. A padded neck strap is included with the 42mm models for comfortable carrying and viewing at all times. Available at retailers nationwide, the suggested retail price for the new roof-prism Predator Xtremes are 8×22 – $179; 8×42 – $399; 10×26 – $199 and 10×42 – $499.
Steyr Introduces C9-A1 Concealed Carry Handgun

Steyr Arms has announced the introduction of the new C9-A1 pistol, which bridges the gap between a compact carry and full-sized shootability. With its concealable-length slide and barrel of the S-series Steyr pistol, and the hand-filling frame and high capacity of the M-series, the C9-A1 provides the best of both worlds. The new C9-A1 is nearly identical in form and function to other handguns in the Steyr line – the M-A1 full-size series with its 17-round magazine and the S-A1 compact series with its 3.6-inch barrel. The new C9-A1 also boasts the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger mechanism. Chambered exclusively in 9x19mm, the new C9-A1 is sure to be a big hit with Steyr pistol aficionados as well as those who are looking for a concealment handgun that provides comfortable ergonomics, low bore axis, remarkable safety features, amazing accuracy thanks to a consistently crisp break, and extreme reliability. The C9-A1’s full-size polymer frame offers unparalleled ergonomics with a high grip and low barrel axis that mitigates muzzle rise as well as creating a perfect grip angle for a very natural point of aim. The drift-adjustable sights are in the traditional three-dot configuration and a Picatinny rail on the frame’s dust cover provides availability for mounting illumination and laser-aiming devices. The integrated trigger safety with the newly redesigned Reset Action System trigger requires positive finger pressure to operate the double-action-only mechanism. This striker-fired pistol also incorporates a keyed safety lock. The barrel is cold-hammer forged with conventional rifling, and the chamber is fully supported. The suggested retail price of the C9-A1 is $649. Please contact Steyr Arms, Inc., 7661 Commerce Lane, Trussville, AL 35173. Phone: (205) 655-8299. Fax: (205) 655-7078.
New Products for AUG and MSAR from Manticore Arms

If you are tired of scraping and bloodying your knuckles trying to charge your Steyr AUG or MSAR rifle with an optic mounted, the Raptor Charging Handle by Manticore Arms solves this issue and provides benefits not found in the traditional charging handle. Manticore Arms, Inc., a developer of original firearm products from concept to market, has developed the Raptor Charging Handle as a specific solution for those tired of injuring themselves on the standard charging handle on the Steyr AUG and MSAR series of rifles. The horizontal design of the Raptor permits plenty of hand clearance even with a large optic such as an EOTech mounted on the low-height top Picatinny rail. The clearance is such that it can be pulled fully rearward and then folded upward to lock the bolt back, unlike the conventional handle. A quick slap of the Raptor levers it out of the rear lock back position, and the bolt goes home. The Manticore Arms Raptor Charging Handle projects horizontally to allow a more natural, ergonomic grip, and is sized for two fingers or gloved hands to grip the handle comfortably. Made in the USA of fiber reinforced polymer and weighing less than two ounces, the Raptor Charging Handle has no sharp edges to cut or tear, and is lightly textured. Best of all, just like the conventional handle, the Raptor Charging Handle retains the ability to fold safely out of the way when pressed against the body or any other object.

Also new from Manticore is their Brass Buster brass deflector. When shooting a Steyr AUG or MSAR rifle off your weak shoulder there is a very real risk of injury from ejecting brass striking you in the face or eyes. As a solution to this problem, the Brass Buster as an ambidextrous/reversible brass deflector designed to facilitate weak side shooting for all Steyr AUG and AUG clone rifles. It also facilitates safe shooting for those using a rifle not ejecting the proper direction for their dominant hand or eye, such as a left handed shooter using a rifle with a right side ejecting bolt. It can be installed or removed in seconds without any need for tools, adhesives, or Velcro. The Brass Buster is reversible and works whether your rifle is set up for right or left side ejection. Simply install the deflector “T” shield on the ejection port side of the gun. Both new products are compatible with all Steyr AUG rifles and clones including the, MSAR STG-556 (all generations) and E4. For more information you can contact them at Manticore Arms, Inc., Dept. SAR, 902 South Randall Road, Suite C #318, St. Charles, IL 60174. Phone: (603) 715-0334.
Rock River Arms Announces PDS Pistol

The Rock River Arms PDS Pistol is the first of a new generation of firearms employing Rock River Arms’ patent-pending Piston Driven System (PDS). Utilizing a purpose-designed bolt carrier, an adjustable gas piston and an over-the-barrel spring and guide rod arrangement, the Rock River Arms PDS is able to completely eliminate the traditional recoil system associated with AR-style firearms, making for an extremely versatile weapon platform. The design of the upper receiver and guide rod base prevents gas blow-by to the back of the receiver. The two position adjustable regulator is conveniently positioned on the right side of the regulator housing.

The New PDS Pistol has a full length top mounting rail from the rear of the receiver to the regulator housing, allowing flexible placement of numerous optics, lights, lasers and other accessories. The folding ambidextrous, non-reciprocating charging handles may be used independently or in unison to charge the RRA PDS Pistol. The RRA PDS Pistol features a Mil-Std 1913 rail on the rear receiver adaptor as well as a Mil-Std 1913 rail on the regulator housing that allows sling or weapons mounting capabilities. The handguard features an integral Operator Safety Flange to help prevent support-hand movement/slippage towards the muzzle. For more information please contact Rock River Arms, Inc., Dept.
Ruger Introduces SR-556 Piston Driven Rifle in 6.8 SPC

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. is pleased to announce the new Ruger SR-556/6.8, a new chambering in the popular SR-556 two-stage, piston-driven, AR-style rifle. The new SR-556/6.8 brings the power and downrange authority of the 6.8 SPC cartridge in a two-stage piston rifle that runs cooler and cleaner than traditional gas-driven, AR-style rifles. Packaged with one five-round magazine and two twenty-five round magazines, the SR-556/6.8 is an ideal hunting rifle for those who appreciate the versatility of the customizable and ergonomic AR-style platform. The 6.8 SPC has ample power for hunting medium-sized game, and the greater muzzle and downrange energy enhances the capability of the SR-556 in defensive or tactical roles as well. The SR-556/6.8 retains all the features of the original SR-556 that make it an outstanding value in the AR-style rifles. The patent-pending, two-stage piston delivers a smooth power stroke to the one-piece bolt carrier, which softens recoil, aiding both shooter comfort and durability of the rifle. The four-position gas regulator allows the shooter to tune the rifle to the ammunition being fired and environmental conditions present. A chrome-lined, cold hammer forged barrel provides accuracy and longevity, Troy Industries folding battle sights, quad rail and rail covers add considerable value to the package, as does the Hogue Monogrip, six-position stock, sight adjustment tool, and the padded carry case, all included with the SR-556/6.8. The SR-556/6.8 maintains the mid-length gas system and the heavy (.850″) barrel contour under the handguard of the original SR-556. The 1:10 twist barrel has a standard SAAMI 6.8 SPC chambering, is 16.12 inches long, is threaded 5/8-24, and is capped with the effective and distinctive Mini-14/SR-556 flash suppressor.
New Black Gun Shooting Rest from Hyskore

Hyskore has just introduced their new Black Rifle Shooting Rest. This shooting rest was designed specially for black rifles with pistol grips and extended magazines in mind. It is constructed with two parallel rails that leave a gap in the center so that long magazines and pistol grips fit into the rest. This allows the gun so set lower in the rest so it can be shouldered easily. The solid, lightweight rest disassembles with a convenient self-storage feature. By undoing only 2 hand-knobs, the front leg brace can be moved to the top side of the rest where it can be reattached for transit and storage. This reduces the foot print of the rest by 60%. It also features 3-point leveling, a magnetic spirit level, front leather rest bag, rear rest platform and auxiliary buttstock strap. Many shooters like to use a rabbit ear rest bag to support the rear of the gun. With that in mind, the Black Gun Shooting Rest has a 4 inch by 5 inch ear platform beneath the removable padded yoke.
By Robert M. Hausman

The Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act proved the basis for dismissal of the notorious lawsuit by the City of New York against the firearms industry. This suit by the city and its mayor, billionaire Michael Bloomberg, sought to hold manufacturers responsible for the criminal misuse of firearms.

“The dismissal of this bogus lawsuit against America’s firearm industry is an important victory,” declared Chris W. Cox, executive director for the National Rifle Association (NRA). “New York City’s lawsuit was a politically motivated attack by an anti-gun mayor to bankrupt a lawful industry.”

The Manhattan-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which NRA helped pass into law in 2005, is constitutional and that Judge Jack B. Weinstein erroneously interpreted that law in his district court ruling allowing the suit to proceed. Similar suits have been dismissed in the Seventh Circuit, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, and in other courts throughout the country.

“We think Congress clearly intended to protect from vicarious liability members of the firearms industry who engage in the ‘lawful design, manufacture, marketing, distribution, importation, or sale’ of firearms,” noted Judge Robert J. Miner, writing for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in dismissing the suit.

This decision represents another setback to Mayor Bloomberg, who has also been publicly rebuked by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for his unlawful “sting” operations against firearm retailers in several states.

Retailer Stands Alone Against NYC

While the suit filed by New York City against firearms manufacturers has been dismissed, the city is still suing individual retailers. With the brokering of a settlement between two Georgia firearms retailers and New York City in Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s 2006 suit against them, there now remains a single defendant in a lawsuit resulting from the infamous and spurious sting operations conducted by the city against so-called “rogue gun dealers.”

That defendant is Smyrna, Georgia based Adventure Outdoors, which has not only refused to enter into a settlement agreement (which would entail allowing a representative of New York City to monitor its sales) but has filed a defamation suit against Bloomberg.

The city had sent out private investigators several years ago to a variety of firearms retailers (both in New York and other states) and deliberately attempted to induce them through trickery to complete firearms sales to the investigators which could be construed as being so-called “strawman transactions.” The “investigations” resulted in the city filing two federal lawsuits against some 27 gun shops in 2006.

The city claimed it had identified the owners of the 27 shops as “rogues” who cared more about making money than public safety and alleged that firearms sold by these shops were a frequent source of guns that were used to commit crimes in New York City. The lawsuit claims 21 guns sold at Adventure Outdoors were used during the commission of a crime in New York City between 1994 and 2001.

The lawyer for Adventure Outdoors’ co-owner, Jay Wallace, says his client will not settle with Bloomberg. He told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that his client “will go as far as to hock his car and his shop and all the guns in it to see this case through.”

“This guy has complete moral conviction that he did not do anything wrong,” the lawyer continued. “He feels he has been wronged, and he’s going to show the jury that New York City is wrong. They sued the wrong guy.” At SAR presstime, the case was scheduled to go to trial last spring. The city has pulled strings to steer the trial to be heard in the courtroom of the notorious anti-gun activist, Judge Jack B. Weinstein.

A gun shop in Virginia and another in South Carolina, who are also contesting the city’s claims, are slated to have their cases heard in federal court this fall when the second case is scheduled for trial.

The cases are embarrassing to ATF as New York City attempts to appropriate its regulatory authority – and it does so in a Draconian manner, much worse than ATF’s now well-known “zero tolerance policy” for record-keeping errors by licensees.

The gun shops that settled with the city (even those in states other than New York) had to agree to have their store operations monitored for three years by a “special master” appointed to the position and paid by New York City. The “master” reviews records and inventory, is permitted to videotape sales activities and to send in “undercover customers” to attempt straw purchases. Store employees are given enhanced training on making legal firearms sales, and identifying straw purchasers.

In a side note, soon after Bloomberg filed his original series of suits against the retailers in 2006, ATF said it would investigate the legality of his sting investigation, which was conducted by non-law enforcement personnel. To date, nothing has been forthcoming from ATF on the issue.

Those retailers who have settled their cases were said to have done so for financial reasons as they didn’t have the financial resources to match those of the New York City government.

Two months after the city filed its first lawsuit, Adventure Outdoors filed a $400 million defamation suit in federal court in Atlanta against the city and Bloomberg. The store’s attorney, former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr, took issue with the city’s allegation that his client is a “rogue gun dealer.” Barr commented, “These are outrageous statements, they are false, they are defamatory and they are slanderous and that is what we have alleged in our lawsuit.”

A judge has cleared the way for Adventure Outdoors tortuous interference with business claim and the case is pending. Lawyers for Bloomberg unsuccessfully attempted to have the case heard in New York City (where it probably would have been steered into Weinberg’s courtroom). It will be heard in Georgia.

Wallace estimates that he will incur legal costs of at least $400,000 in defending and prosecuting the two actions. He has received a $5,000 contribution from the Second Amendment Foundation, $1,000 from the National Rifle Association and $2,500 from a fellow Georgia firearms retailer, Chuck’s Gun & Pawn of Warner Robins, GA.

A fund has been started to help finance the actions. Non-tax deductible contributions may be sent to: Bloomberg Fight Back Fund, 630 Windy Hill Road, Smyrna, GA 30080.

Wal-Mart to Video Tape Gun Buyers

Wal-Mart recently joined New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a gathering of Bloomberg’s anti-gun group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, to announce a series of changes to the way in which Wal-Mart handles firearm transactions.

At the press event, J.P. Suarez, chief compliance officer for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., said: “The costs are, we think, part of what it takes to be responsible.” Suarez also added, “This is not a signal that we’re getting out of firearms.”

Once these changes are up and running, firearm purchases at Wal-Mart will involve a video record of the sale, which the store will keep on file – effectively creating a video database of gun purchasers. In addition, Wal-Mart announced that its employees will be given discretion to deny firearms purchases to anyone who has had a firearm traced by BATFE for any reason – including those who have had a firearm stolen and later used in criminal activity.

Wayne LaPierre, NRA Executive Vice President, said, “I view it as a public relations stunt that stigmatizes law-abiding firearms purchasers exercising their constitutional freedoms. I honestly think it’s a corporation trying to curry favor with politicians as opposed to doing anything meaningful about stopping crime.”

RZM Imports Employee Admits Stealing $816,129 from Company

A former employee of RZM Imports, Inc., the large Southbury, Connecticut-based marketer of World War Two military and firearms books, magazines, videos, etc., has pled guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of income tax evasion.

According to documents filed with the U.S. District Court and statements made in court, Leslie Tavolacci, 56, a part-time employee of RZM Imports, as part of her duties opened and sorted incoming mail, and then deposited checks received by RZM from customers into the company’s bank account. In pleading guilty, Tavolacci admitted that she unlawfully took a large number of checks payable to her employer and deposited them into other checking accounts she had opened under the RZM Imports, Inc. name. She then withdrew the money from these accounts, usually using bank debit cards, and used the funds for her own use and enrichment. Through this scheme, she was alleged to have embezzled approximately $816,129 between 1997 and 2004.

As a result of her guilty plea, Tavolacci faces a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 years and a fine of up to $350,000.

FNH Doubles Web Site Traffic

Traffic to the FNH USA website (www.FNHUSA.com) doubled recently after enhancements were made, the firm says. These include an interactive dealer locator, downloadable wallpapers and logos, a photo gallery, product reviews and video content.

Sturm, Ruger Wins Prisons Contract

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. announces that it has been awarded a 5-year requirements contract for the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The contract is for 1,750 9mm pistols, with the potential to replace up to 3,000 pistols for the federal prison system. The pistols to be supplied are based on the Ruger KP95 models. The pistols are double-action only, incorporate a stainless steel slide, and feature a custom polymer composite frame with a Picatinny rail.

The Ruger pistols to be supplied under this contract will be manufactured in the company’s Prescott, Arizona manufacturing facility over the next five years.

By Chris A. Choat

KRISS-TDI Introduces Semi-Auto Carbine Version of Vector SMG

Transformation Defense Industries, Inc. (TDI) has just released their new semiautomatic civilian version .45 ACP carbine incorporating the revolutionary and innovative KRISS Super V patented operating system. Offering the same acclaimed shoot ability of its fully automatic submachine gun sibling, the new KRISS Vector CRB/SO (Special Ops) is the only semiautomatic firearm that actually helps the operator dramatically improve accuracy in the field or on the range. By re-vectoring the forces of recoil and significantly reducing muzzle climb, the innovative KRISS Super V technology provides a more compact and lighter-weight operating system creating a firearm that can be handled more effectively, more accurately and for longer periods of time, allowing the operator to put more rounds on target more often. The Vector CRB/SO was formally unveiled to the public at the 2008 National Shooting Sports Foundation SHOT Show, February 1-5, in Las Vegas, NV. The KRISS Vector CRB/SO is an ATF-approved, 38-state legal (folding stock), 16 inch barrel semi-auto firearm, sharing the same mil-spec frame, Super V operating system, materials and sturdy housing as the KRISS Vector SMG, designed for military and law enforcement markets. It also uses the same, easy-to-maintain Super V mechanism that reduces felt recoil by more than 50 percent and reduces barrel elevation by more than 95 percent. Non-folding stock and California versions will follow in mid-2008. Rugged and reliable, the Vector CRB/SO remains easy-to-service with an elementary yet robust mechanism featuring fewer moving parts. To date, more than 60,000 rounds have been fired through test firearms without a single major failure. By providing a compact and lightweight package that re-vectors the forces that typically cause recoil and muzzle climb, the Vector CRB/SO is a highly maneuverable, forgiving-to-shoot firearm. The KRISS Super V Vector CRB/SO is offered to civilian purchasers in two versions. The CRB/SO Basic System which consists of firearm, custom KRISS DC/HM flip-up sight system, foregrip, full top and bottom Picatinny rails, grip storage pod, sling point mount, two Glock 21 magazines and custom cleaning kit. The other version is their CRB/SO Tactical System that consists of all items in the Basic System as well as EOTech 512 holographic sight, custom single-point sling, Surefire E1E light and GripPod/bi-pod foregrip.
